Newsgroups: rec.games.board.ce Subject: Re: Mayfair Games is going out of business. Date: 10 Feb 1997 04:46:51 GMT Just to confirm from the horses mouth: Yes, Mayfair is falling apart. Many of the employees have defected (after being laid off) to Wargames West. The fate of the product lines (including Cosmic) is up in the air. There may be one or more offers to buy some products, but I am too far removed from the chain of command to know the details of those proceedings. From what I can tell, Cosmic may revert back to Eon for them to sell off to some unsuspecting :-) game company. Cosmic Eons was done. With the proper financial support, it could start printing tomorrow. It would be nice if it existed at some point. As Russell Davoli pointed out, it would be even more of a shame if the new art for the basic set never saw the light of day. It is just so good that it would be a crime if it never got printed. It was this wonderful, often non-anthropomorphic, really weird stuff done by David Cherry (a wonderful artist at everything I've seen him try). And all of the powers from the basic set are done, so it's just waiting to be laid out and printed. Finally, a good amount of work had been done on A Bit More. There are some nice powers there, but they still need all the art and some playtesting, so I could see it just vanishing. Alas. So basically Cosmic is back in Game Limbo again. It is a shame. Fortunately, it is such a classic of the hobby gaming field that I have faith that someone will pick it up eventually. With the state of the market, it may take a few years, but Cosmic will rise again! Tom Smith ex-Mayfair employee
