Lesson Plan 24

Final Project (Second Semester)

Lesson Title

Final Project (Second Semester)

Duration

10 classes (15.0 hours)

Synopsis

Students bring together all the skills they have learned to produce a culturally relevant collaborative virtual world.

Description of Class

The students plan and create an immersive environment.  Incorporating their own experiences with the perspectives gleaned from instructors and guest lecturers, they come up with a theme, produce a layout, and divide up work tasks.  They use Corel Painter to produce 2D images and animations, use Maya to produce static and animated 3D models, and work in the field and in a sound studio to capture and process audio clips.  The students create a description file which specified the layout of the objects in the world.  The students work closely with the instructors to iteratively incorporate the various elements into the world.

Primary Educational Objective

Experience working on a large project which integrates and reinforces the separate elements they have learned during the year.
