Software Packages Help

The SCV Software Packages list lists the primary software packages supported by the Scientific Computing and Visualization group of the Office of Information Technology at Boston University.

Next to each package name may be links to help pages available on the package.

  • Links labeled "SCV Help" will take you to specific help pages on the package written by SCV staff members and intended primarily for users of SCV machines. At the bottom of each of these pages you will find links to other related help pages and man pages for the package.
  • Links labeled "SCV Tutorial" will take you to a WWW version of a Tutorial taught by SCV staff members. The tutorial will be on or related to the package you are interested in.
  • Links to "ACS Help" will take you to pages within the ACS Help System which provide material principally for ACS users. The information in some cases will not be relevant to users of SCV machines.
  • Links to "Man Page" will take you to a man page on the package. These man pages will generally be Linux man pages and, in some cases, will not be appropriate for the machine you are on. If you want information that is machine specific, access the man pages from the Unix prompt on the specific machine you are working on by using the man command. Go here to look up any of the man pages we have available online.
  • Links to "External Help" will take you to online pages maintained outside of Boston University. Most commonly these will be from the company or organization that offers or sells the software.
  • Links to "IBM Help" will take you to online pages by IBM.
