Migration Workshop (from SGI to IBM) and Friendly User Access ******************** We have recently completed the installation of a 96-processor IBM P690 (Regatta) computer system which is based on the newly available IBM 1.3 GHz Power4 processor. This is in addition to the 64-processor IBM SP (Hal) which has been in production since last year. To introduce you to the new systems, we will be offering a workshop for users and prospective users of the IBM SP and Regatta. Please note that our SGI machines will eventually be phased out, so this is a good opportunity to start porting your codes to the IBM systems if you haven't done so already. * ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** * This workshop will be held from 9:00am to 12:00pm, Thursday, June 6, 2002 in Room B25, 111 Cummington Street. The first hour of the workshop will include information on basic operation, compilers, debuggers, profiling, and running parallel codes using both shared and distributed memory models. The remainder of the workshop will be a hands-on session offering help with porting codes, profiling, or any other issues of interest. Room B25 is equipped with workstations and so space is limited. Advance registration is required and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please send Kadin Tseng (kadin@bu.edu) an email to register. * ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** * As announced earlier, the new Regatta is not yet ready to go into production. We are looking for a relatively small number of early "friendly users" (http://scv.bu.edu/SCV/fug.html) to shake down the system. If you are interested in gaining early access to the Regatta as a "friendly user", or simply want an early introduction to the new system, please register and come to the workshop for further details.
