Four new pieces added to our Visualization Gallery. (11/13/09)
Introduction to Scientific Visualization tutorial added. This is actually a completely new version of a tutorial we used to provide. (11/05/09)
Two additional quad-core nodes were added to the Katana Cluster. These nodes are configured exactly the same as those added in March, 2009. (10/14/09)

We have an upcoming workshop entitled Introduction to the MATLAB Parallel Computing Toolbox on September 29, 2009 3-6 PM. Registration is actually already full but you can still express interest in a second session. (9/21/09)
Two additional new tutorials entitled Using MATLAB to Visualize Scientific Data and Introduction to Plotting Packages are now available. (8/31/09)
Two new tutorials on Using VTK to Visualize Scientific Data and Using ParaView to Visualize Scientific Data have been added to our Tutorials section. The tutorials on Using IDL to Manipulate and Visualize Scientific Data and Introduction to Image Files have also been heavily updated. (7/21/09)
We have developed a new documentation type for some major software programs, called Examples, with example materials to help users get started with the programs. We currently have MATLAB Examples, IDL Examples, VTK Examples, ParaView Examples, OpenGL Examples, and Open Scene Graph Examples. (6/24/09)
We are offering a free MATLAB Parallel Computing Toolbox Workshop on June 16, 2009 - registration is required. (6/10/09)
Our IBM p690 machines, which have been in production since September 2002, are taken out of service. (6/01/09)
Fourteen nodes added to the Katana Cluster, each with two dual-core 2.4 GHz AMD Opteron 2216HE processors. These nodes do not support Infiniband and will be used primarily for single processor jobs. (4/07/09)
Four new blade servers, each with two quad-core 3.0 GHz Intel Xeon E5450 processors added to the Katana Cluster. These are designed primary for 8 processor parallel jobs. Technical details here. (3/31/09)
The MATLAB Parallel Computing Toolbox (PCT) is now available on the Katana Cluster to all SCF users. (2/23/08)
SCV will have a booth again this year at the Supercomputing 2008 show in Austin, Texas November 15-21, 2008. One of the demos we will be showing, Tomographic Reconstruction of Forest Structure from a Ground-Based Lidar Instrument, has been added to the SCV Visualizations Gallery. (11/7/08)

SCV will be holding a two-day high performance computing workshop on October 23-24, 2007. There is no fee for the workshop, and it is open to anyone interested in high-performance computing. There will be sessions on parallel processing with MPI, parallel processing with OpenMP, and code performance. Advance registration is required and is on a first-come, first-served basis. (9/19/07)

IBM Research IBM dominates global supercomputing, commanding leadership for the US says IBM, discussing the dominance of the IBM BlueGene/L systems on the latest Top 500 Supercomputer Sites list. BU's own BlueGene/L, which we are working on bringing into full production as soon as we can, is at #59 on the list. (6/30/05)
SCV staff have been involved in the production of three installations, Virtual Views at the Computer Graphics Lab, Virtual Views at the Sherman Gallery, and On the Map, for the Boston Cyberarts Festival from April 22 - May 8, 2005. We announced information about the continuing migration from the SGI Origin 2000 systems to our newer IBM systems today. Also, Principal Investigators may now apply as 'friendly users' on our new Linux Cluster. All of the Origin 2000 systems will go out of service on May 30, 2003. (4/22/03)
