This will be done in stages. The first machine to be decommissioned will be one of the 64-processor machines, jacks.bu.edu, on Friday, February 28. The rest will be powered down at appropriate intervals. All of the SGI O2000 machines will be offline by June 1 of this year. For those of you who have not yet made the transition from the SGI systems to the IBM systems, it is important to do so in the very near future. If you have questions about, or would like help with, porting your code to the new systems, you may contact our scientific programming consultants, Kadin Tseng (kadin@bu.edu) or Doug Sondak (sondak@bu.edu). We have also established a repository of information on the IBM SP and p690 machines, which may be found at http://scv.bu.edu/SCV/IBMSP/. lego.bu.edu will remain the interactive login machine. The changes to the batch queues when jacks is shut down will be a change in the number of slots, as follows: Current After jacks is retired short 2 2 long 40 36 verylong 4 4 mp4 2 0 mp8short 1 0 mp8long 4 2 mp16 3 2 mp32 1 1 Also, as part of the continuing development of the IBM p690 system we are in the very early stage of installing a new large storage solution.
