Information Technology's Computer Graphics Lab offers a wide range of
options for creating, manipulating and printing professional-quality computer
graphics. This tutorial will give you an introduction to
using UNIX software utilities for creating and manipulating images using the
Computer Graphics Lab facilities. You will learn
the differences between image file formats and how to use the
San Diego Supercomputer Center
Image Tools.
You will also learn appropriate criteria for producing graphics for
presentations and publications.

- understand how image file formats differ
- convert between various image file formats
- understand the color variations encountered in color graphics
hardware and hard copy
- understand the major issues involved with color scanning and with
producing color prints, transparencies and 35 mm slides using the
Computer Graphics Lab facilities

- Familiarity with a computer graphics application
- Getting Started with UNIX (Course 4000) or
Getting Started with UNIX, Video Version (Course 4001) or
Getting Started with UNIX, Accelerated Version (Course 4005) or
equivalent UNIX experience
