Artist's Statement:

My most recent works of art have been sculptural pieces. "Mirror" is intended to give a distorted view of its audience. Its mirrored surface has limited reflectivity, and its flexibility causes it to respond with forces of air movement. The interactions between real and virtual sculptures give life to the experience of "Spirited Ruins" by adding participatory actions to the experience beyond those which the virtual participants intentionally cause.

Technical Description

Materials: Lauan plywood, Poplar, Teak, mirrored Mylar, speakers, microphone, video camera.
Dimensions: 28" w X 58" h X 28" d

This sculpture works in conjunction with the Levitating Reflection Pool piece found within the virtual environs of "Spirited Ruins". When a participant in the virtual space activates the Levitating Reflection Pool, a sound is triggered in "Mirror". This sound pushes air against the back of "Mirror's" Mylar surface causing it to move in a wave-like motion just like the rippling waves activated within the pool. A microphone and video camera in the "Mirror" bring sound and images from the physical space into the virtual space.
