"Will Exascale be the new Petascale?"
Revised Abstract:
As the first petaflop systems are set to be deployed this year,
attention of
planners (and dreamers) has turned to exascale systems which might appear
in the 2020 time frame. Recently both DOE and DARPA have held
workshops to encourage community discussion of the challenges and
opportunities at exascale. This talk will introduce and summarize some of
the ideas that have emerged and hopefully initiate a lively discussion of
exascale and petascale hardware and software and applications. Richard
Brower will describe a few of algorithmic and software challenges and
opportunities in the application of Lattice Field Theory to particle
physics.
