Hello all -- To kick off the new year, I have a project in mind. To help me define the goals of the Internet2 Arts and Humanities Initiative -- and focus on possible projects, funding sources, working groups, etc. -- I would like to compose a white paper that reflects the opportunities and barriers for Internet2's arts and humanities community. While I plan to be involved in writing the paper, I want it to reflect your interests and needs. Thus, consider this a call for participation.

I'm proposing the following structure for the paper:
leftExecutive Summary
Mission and Goal Statement: Internet2 arts and humanities initiative has a primary objective of informing faculty and researchers about the opportunities presented by high-performance network environments, while also enabling and advancing collaborations between high performance networking technologies and applications in the arts and humanities.”
Contributed statement sections
(with authors' names included)
Conclusion

I'm looking to you to contribute to the statement sections (see notes from our fall meeting to refresh your memory of our initial discussion 0000,0000,ffffhttp://apps.internet2.edu/html/Fall_2000--Arts_and_Humanities_session.htm ). Your sections can be contributed in two ways. Either submit something in writing to me or, if you prefer, I can get your input by phone, write it up, and then return it to you for validation.

My goal is to begin writing the white paper now so that we can refine it together when we meet in March at the Spring 2001 Internet2 Member Meeting. I am also working with relevant grants and award executives at the NEA who have committed to speak with us at our spring meeting. So, their input will be relevant to our discussion.

There is another related project underway. Susan Topol (stopol@internet2.edu), Internet2 technical writer, is creating a handout that highlights current arts and humanities activities. She is looking for projects to highlight in this publication. Once completed, this handout will be something any of us can use when meeting with campus executives, funding agencies, etc. You will be hearing from Susan very soon regarding your input for this project.

Please feel free to send me e-mail, call me (734) 352-7011, or let me know a good time to call you to discuss your interests. First drafts would be appreciated by Tuesday, January 23. I look forward to hearing from many of you! -- Ann
