Subject: Sample models

I would like to nip any cg modelling problems in the bud as soon as
possible. To that end, I would like everyone involved with Spirited
Ruins who has not sent models in before to send me the following test
model:

TEST FILE DESCRIPTION:

- dimensions in xyz order: 2x4x8 feet
Most programs will allow you to change your units. Please let me
know if you cannot find how
to do this in your program.
- the bottom of the cube should be sitting at 0,0,0 (as should your
models)
- textured (if you are planning to use textures)
+ if textured, send image file as tiff or jpeg
- normals should face outward
- one of the following file formats (in order of preference to me):
        - VRML 1.0 or
        - OBJ
        - whatever is native to your program (.3ds, for example if you
are using 3dstudio)

If you are using Lightwave, you will need to reverse ("flip")
the normals before outputting and
output VRML 1.0 only (not a VRML scene file, which will be VRML
2.0)

FILE TRANSER:

Even if you have not started modelling for Spirited Ruins, please send
this test cube and any additional files via anonymous ftp to cgl.bu.edu.
In the pub/incoming directory you will each have your own directory into
which you will "cd" and write ("put") your files . The name of your
directory will be your last name, uncapitalized. You will not be able to
do an "ls" in that directory for security reasons.

I want to make sure everyone knows how to do this as it will make
putting things together go much more smoothly (and I will not end up
requiring sedation). Please do not be afraid to ask for help!

OTHER STUFF:
For your "real" cg modelling, make sure to keep the polygon count in
mind.
