Subject: "Spirited Ruins" Updates

Hi Everyone,

We had a very productive "Spirited Ruins" meeting on Monday, June 21 with
many collaborators and SCV staff attending. Since then I hope the collaborators
have been working on ideas and proposals. I know some of you are waiting to
hear who you might collaborate with or how you can otherwise participate.
Our staff has been clarifying the plan of action and in this mailing I will
update you on this and other relative information.

First a note about this mailing list. You are on this HiPArt (High Performance
Computing in the Arts) mailing list because of your interest in participating
in our projects. This list will be used by the staff and collaborating
artists to communicate with the group.

You may send mail to the members of this list at:

      hipart@scv.bu.edu

The messages, including this one, are archived and you may view them on the
Web at:

      http://scv.bu.edu/CoCo/HIPART/

For more information on HiPArt, please see:

If you are not participating in "Spirited Ruins" and wish to be removed from
this list, please send mail to:

Because of the complexity of the project and the need to integrate a lot
of aspects of it, we would like you to submit proposals which a smaller
group including our staff and some artists will evaluate. The smaller group
will develope an overall plan including any recommendations for modifications
which would help to integrate each of the pieces into the environment. We
will present the plan along with recommendations to the entire group for
discussion and refinement. At that point it should be clear where additional
help/talent is needed. Please note that the proposals are being used to plan
out the entire environment, both virtual and physical, to optimize the
experience of the navigator and the display of each of the submissions.
This is not a juried project. We are asking for proposals for new submissions
only. If you already have pieces in "Spirited Ruins", we will include them
in the new plan.

We know this is somewhat short notice, but we would like to receive proposals
on Tuesday, July 6. Proposals can be in any form or combination: Web pages,
email, slides, paper, drawings, verbal descriptions, etc. If you will need
assistance acquiring equipment for your (physical) piece, please include
specific information about the equipment. The one request we have that you
include in your proposal is that every item you submit has your name on it.
We will accept submissions throughout the day.

Submissions may be:

emailed to: laura@bu.edu

snail mail should arrive on the 6th:
	Laura Giannitrapani
	Boston Univ., Info. Tech.
	111 Cummington Street
	Boston, MA 02215

hand deliver:
	Boston University
	Computer Graphics Lab
	111 Cummington Street, room 203

The smaller group will evaluate the proposals and develope a plan during
the week of July 6-9. We will present the plan to the entire group on
Tuesday, July 13 6:00pm - 9:00pm. We will try to find an appropriate room
for this meeting and will let you know where it is later. Since at that
time our staff will have a better idea of the specific technical needs
of individual pieces, we will try to include that information along with
any recommendations for modification whenever possible.

Below is the list of artists who have attended our last couple of meetings
and or participated in "Gateway to Spirited Ruins". Many are interested in
collaborating on pieces with other artists. I have included email addresses
so that you can contact each other directly. Perhaps we will need to come
up with more appropriate descriptions, but in the list below, I use
"3D modeling" to indicate virtual or computer graphics artist and "Sculptor"
to indicate physical materials and kinematic sculpture artist. Suggestions
for better terms are welcome. If there are mistakes, please forgive me
and send me the corrections.

Our staff is very pleased with your enthusiasm for participating in
